Tastemaker: Sophisticated Soul

Sophisticated Soul

Miami Female
I’m in my late 30’s and live in south beach (from here too).
My best day is a day at the beach, eat a great lunch, work out, and enjoy a nice evening with friends drinking wine and eating great food that pushes the pallete.
Miami is one of those places that when my friends come to visit they are truly sad to go – sometimes it is a problem as they overstay there welcome,…but no complaints- it’s not their faults.
Going to the lavish hotels is fun, there are ton of tourists to meet as well as locals if you know where to go.
Getting out of the sobe is nice too, take drives on the weekends solo or with friends and explore and meet people.
There is a lot of culture here, Cuban roots, American, tourists, hard working immigrants (oh yeah that is the entire USA), great art, architecture, sandwiches and coffee.
I am sure you have heard of the party, music and sports scene here. It is a big part of life. There is the winter music conference, great venues and parties, but in the same night you can just have fun dancing salsa with friends and eating great hot dogs at 4am-highly recommended…I know some spots.
There is some weird symbiotic relationship happening here with the people and the energy, its high and it keeps on going.

I'd love to know where you hang out and what you love to do! Email mobilespinach@mobilespinach.com businesses that you like and things you like to do and we will do our best to get you discounts from your favorite places.

Bistro Juice

January 6th, 2010, 1:09 p.m.

One the best deals I’ve found on the new Mobile Spinach site is the one at Andu Bistro (www.andurestaurant.com).

• Andu Bistro get 10% off lunch, dinner, drinks and dessert-enjoy the food

This place is a serious find and a huge score for Mobile Spinach members. The modern design makes me feel like I’m in the house in Betejuice after the Winona Ryder’s family redecorates. It might be a sad thing for the Maitland family but the odd coldness of the house in the film is a place I would like to visit; living there might be a different story. Oh, and the food is supposed to be swell also.

Staycation

December 30th, 2009, 1:51 p.m.

One of my favorite spots of 2009 was The Sunset Lounge at the Mondrian (www.mondrian-miami.com/#/explore/?id=sunsetlounge). Always felt, as I sat in the luxuriously carpeted lounging room, that the view I was seeing was a projection catering to a world long lost. Soooo profound I know. I could have had something to do with the three Caiprinhas I had upon each visit.

I’m gearing up to check into the Mondrian again tomorrow night for a “staycation” as is the new word these days. Vaca while staying at home? Easy and cheaper than that flight to St. Bart’s!

Orgasms and Eggs

December 9th, 2009, 1:15 p.m.

Sunday brunch was a tradition amongst my girls and I long before Samantha and Carrie started chatting orgasms over eggs in New York. Maitardi (www.maitardimiami.com) supposedly just opened doors for outside dinning on Sundays so we’ll be there nursing hangovers and swapping stories over Frittatas. Hopefully conversation will surpass the stratus of “getting off” and shoes…but those topics will be touched on.

Shopping Break

December 2nd, 2009, 10:41 a.m.

Thank the lord almighty there is gorgeous weather here year round; despite the occasional death spurring hurricane. Tapping Fred Segal, The Webster (www.thewebstermiami.com) is a massive fashion supplier that also is home to a trendsetting restaurant and now lounge on the roof. Spending money inside the store can now be trumped by tying one on out of doors. I’m looking forward to doing both.

Also, as far as Mobile Spinach deals go in Miami, here’s what I’ve got for you:

Andu Bistro offers 10% off anything on the menu for Mobile Spinach members.

Gelateria Parmalat offers 50% off their gelato just for Mobile Spinach members.

SF vs Miami

November 28th, 2009, 9:33 a.m.

So when did this turn into a competition between Mobile Spinach cities? I’ll tell you when. As soon as San Francisco, our home base office, told us to write about San Francisco instead of Miami! No bother….just this week. Next week we’re back to South Beach and the beautiful people, you can have your day in the fog SF.

Cheerio!

November 22nd, 2009, 2:52 p.m.

English cuisine is paraded around the world as less than tasty and far from contributing to the world menu. If you believe this you are wrong. Ever had exceptional Beef Wellington? Every tried to make even a mediocre Beef Wellington? It’s “bloody” scrumptious and “bloody” difficult to construct. So, please, put the myths away and check out The Ivy (No relation to LA, don’t worry) at The Grove (www.theivyatthegrove.com).

Indoor Work Out

November 13th, 2009, 6:45 p.m.

I’ve always been somewhat of a gym-rat ever since I left the rec in college feeling twice as skinny as when I went in. This new cross training fad has been sweeping across the fitness landscape and putting dust on the treadmills and sprinting-prints in the sand. So it only makes sense that CrossFit North Miami would move it indoors (http://crossfitnmb.com/) . These are some serious training sessions that seem like their straight out of a strong man competition. Whatever works I guess.

I’ll have the chocolate ribs with Szchaun sauce

November 9th, 2009, 7:25 p.m.

Finding new ways to approach the sweet tooth can be tricky. I remember tasting Pizza Popcorn for the first time (well that’s salty-tooth, sorry, same difference) and becoming seriously ill from the taste. So I’m skeptical about trying Cookie Monkey’s (http://www.iwantcookiemonkey.com/index.html) flavors that involve things like bacon and chocolate. I may need a bong hit for this sampling but then I’ll never really know if I like it or not. Dilemmas.

Picnic Time

October 28th, 2009, 5:12 p.m.

Wine cellars in Miami? You best believe it. La Bottega Enoteca Sociale (http://labottegasociale.com/) opened recently as an Italian eatery with a wine club for those who can’t jet off to Napa for long weekends. It’s also a specialty foods store and just basic all around great place to enjoy your recent wine infatuation. Also, if you are sap for reality TV, which I must confess to be, the winner of Shear Genius, Dee Adames has just opened up a new South Beach shop called Dee & Co. (http://deeandcohairstudio.com/).

The South Coast….of France?

October 21st, 2009, 2:55 p.m.

Lemon Twist opened last week and my friend Chauncey went with a date. It went well…not Bluebirds and friendly squirrels waking her up in the morning with French toast and coffee but at least waking up without a hangover or a regretful cloud commiserating over her head. She gave much of the praise to her date’s choice of restaurant as she loved the place. Of course the calories packed on via foie gras did not merit a French toast breakfast.
