Tastemaker: Power Couple

Power Couple

NY Couple
So we are sort of a power couple-at least that is what our friends tell us.
My man works in finance and I am an entrepreneur and our jobs have us in all different directions socially.
NY is good for us as we are always working, socializing and networking at the same time-and it seems like everyone else is too. This fits our lifestyle as we have many goals in all aspects of life that we will achieve!
This city is full of many in spots and out spots so knowing where to go is important if you are looking for a great new restaurant or nightcap. New place or hip places attract all sorts of fun and interesting people and for us, when we are there too, it makes our time more enjoyable...it’s hard to fight the machine but you can use it to your advantage.
There is so much to do in this great city that you really have 2 options:
1. let it come to you and take it day by day
2. create goals and dedicate time to certain themes:
I guess there is 3 if you can balance doing both…
We like to talk about what we want to do and then schedule time for it-whether it relates to art, road trips, train or buses (sometimes you need to get out of the city…), classes, charity, time together and time apart.
We are the planning type but also the doing type-we want it all!

I'd love to know where you hang out and what you love to do! Email mobilespinach@mobilespinach.com businesses that you like and things you like to do and we will do our best to get you discounts from your favorite places.

Going to California

January 6th, 2010, 1:05 p.m.

The travel section of Mobile Spinach is killing it…everywhere except for New York. Sad I know but we are trying! No one wants to come here when the weather report is negative digits and the charm of a snowy Christmas and NYE has turned to a lack-luster slushed out January.

Of course the San Francisco Mobile Spinach Crew has tons of hotels on their roster so they better show us a good time when we hit up the Left Coast:

• Clift Hotel offers 20% discount on best available rate (black out dates Dec 31, Jan 10-13).

• Hotel Nikko offers free drink with purchase of appetizer in Anzu restaurant-enjoy the scene

• Open Top Sightseeing San Francisco offers discount tickets.

• Personality Hotels offer 20% discount on best available rate + shopping discounts, discounted valet parking only $25.00.

Lofty Couple

December 30th, 2009, 1:45 p.m.

We will be dressed to the nines sipping Stoli at our friends Soho loft come tomorrow night. We’ve arranged the car, got the overcoats back from the dry cleaners and been assured that we need not bring a single item to this black tie event amongst friends. The loft has White Oak floors with Baccarat crystal draping from every precipice.

Of course there is very little Mobile Spinach angle when it comes to this event but we always find a way to intertwine our precious little Mobile Spinach (No kids yet!) around our busy lives. The dry cleaners we use we’ve heard is one of the best in the city. Opus One Pinot stains be damned! They can get them out and we plan on letting the entire Mobile Spinach community in Manhattan in on our little secret. Keep up with us so we can let you in on our secret cleaners!

Amityville

December 9th, 2009, 1:12 p.m.

Check out Amity Hall (www.amityhallnyc.com) before it gets over crowded. The seemingly underground space is void of windows but instead has great plasmas for watching a game from one of the family style wooden tables that scream out for rowdy booze swilling, 40-beer-fun…no 30-beer-fun….40-beer-fun.

Tis’ the season for free food and hosted open bars at product launches, gallery

December 2nd, 2009, 10:38 a.m.

Being that it’s Christmas time in NYC we are definitely getting all dressed up and taking in a show, a classic not East Village show. Carnegie Hall (www.carnegiehall.org) just happens to be a Mobile Spinach customer and their line up for this holiday season is fantastic. Take a look at their calendar: www.carnegiehall.org/SiteCode/Events/MonthCalendar.aspx

And here is the deal any Mobile Spinach member can utilize for a show!

Carnegie Hall offers $5-$25 tickets just for Mobile Spinach members.

This is a price we can’t afford to miss out on.

Off to the Land of the Ice and Snow with the Midnight Sun….

November 22nd, 2009, 2:49 p.m.

We are heading north for some skiing, ahem, “boarding” for my man (What a young and hip vagrant) and East Coast winters will whip you harder than my husband is whipped on me…almost. We will be shopping for some extra warmth at Swedish artic outfitters Fjallraven (www.fjallraven.com). They just opened a store here in NYC and when it comes to massages and winter clothing I think I’ll trust the Swedes.

Bridges of New York County

November 13th, 2009, 6:43 p.m.

I just heard of this shop via Daily Candy called Two Bridges Trading Company (http://twobridgestrading.com/) and I’m basically deciding that I’m heading there soon and re-decorating our apartment via the store. It’s a “temporary” set up which means I think as soon as they sell out of nick-knacks its shut down time. Better hurry.

Little Dumplings

November 9th, 2009, 7:21 p.m.

Sunday night Chinese food is about as religious as we get in NYC. Usually it involves tons of white and red containers that end up leftovers later on in the week. This time we’re going out. Chow Bar has a private Sunday night burlesque show (http://chowbarnyc.com/events/sundayburlesque.html) combined with Dim Sum which seems to me the perfect excuse to get the couples together for a night out…a Sunday night out.

How far is it from Rome to London?

October 28th, 2009, 5:10 p.m.

One of our favorite haunts when we were both single was Bar Martignetti. It shut its doors awhile back but is now opening in British pub form as Brinkley’s (http://brinkleysnyc.com/). We’re looking forward to returning for some homely beer instead of a wicked singles martini...well maybe a married martini will taste just as good.

What are you supposed to be?

October 21st, 2009, 2:42 p.m.

So we are weighing our options for Halloween this year. We both love to get out on the town as kids might be in the picture some day and then Halloween turns into pouring through your kid’s candy to make sure its safe, photos accompanied with cutesy sighs and “awwwws” and making sure the child is always in your line of sight as they grab for their Halloween loot. We’ve heard good things about Purgatorio in Times Square (http://enterpurgatorio.com/) …if you have any suggestions let us know!
