Tastemaker: Nutshell

Nutshell

Boston Couple
MOVE: Walking everywhere, hiking around MA, NH and ME, jogging along Charles River, tennis, surfing (yes, Jay is a die hard ever since Ocean Beach surfing in SF where we lived for 5 years)

EAT: This is a big one! We're total foodies and love to check out local farmers' markets and new restaurants, from swanky new spots on the scene to great new sandwich spots. We eat out probably 2-3 times a week and cook a ton - it's therapeutic! Hosting dinner parties is one of our favorite things to do - great food, new recipes, delicious wine and fun friends! We're always looking for tips on new wines to try as well - love local tastings.

LEARN: Check out speakers on topics like renewable energy, global NGO work, cool new books, etc. at local universities and networking events (Boston has some brains!).

PLAY: We love great DJs and lounge scenes without a major club vibe (we miss this about SF!). We'll check out a new bar or one of the local favorites about each week. We also try to see new documentaries and indie films at local theaters (and of course some of the blockbusters) to give us new perspective.

EXPLORE: We try to see something "new" in and around Boston each weekend. This means visiting a new town in the area, checking out some of the city's amazing arboretums, a new museum exhibit, new bar spot or even new street with some great buzz and people watching. Oh, and of course great new shops and trunk shoes - love supporting local artists and designers.

I'd love to know where you hang out and what you love to do! Email mobilespinach@mobilespinach.com businesses that you like and things you like to do and we will do our best to get you discounts from your favorite places.

“No Fun of Any Kind!” – Dean Wormer

January 6th, 2010, 1:08 p.m.

It seems that every Mobile Spinach Tastemaker from Boston is writing about The Equal Exchange deal of a “Free cup of drip coffee at Equal Exchange Cafes throughout Boston”. There. I did it. Now I’ll stick with another trend and kick you some knowledge about some fitness for the new year…no one is writing about that. Jesus. Check out Ultimate Boot Camp (www.ultimatebootcamp.com) for some high kicking pain. Though I’ve heard good things I’m still not sold as the lady in the picture on the website is smiling when she should a siren screaming in high-thigh and glute pain.

Bloody Heaven

December 30th, 2009, 1:49 p.m.

So it goes without saying that we’ll both be getting a little tipsy tomorrow night and most likely having a sloppy kiss at midnight which was feel a ton better than it looks; thank god our eyes will be closed. More importantly is the hangover cure the next day. We’ve already staked out our morning, or afternoon, table at Poe’s Kitchen at The Rattlesnake (http://rattlesnakebar.com/).

Let it be known throughout the land that the Bloody Mary Eggs Benedict with a Bloody Mary or two is the best hangover cure in all of time. It is written…as long as we have a table and not to long of a wait.

Think Spring

December 9th, 2009, 1:14 p.m.

If my man comes asking you for advice this year for presents please let him know that I want some Spring time jewelry collections from Tistik (www.shoptistik.com). I just found them online and the bright and clear designs remind me of something Brooke Shields would have concocted while in residence at The Blue Lagoon.

Spa-rum-pum-pum-pa

December 2nd, 2009, 10:39 a.m.

We are going to need a break between Christmas and NYE. Between visiting friends and relatives some alone time with each other is going to be imperative to our survival. We will be heading into Spa Christine (www.spachristine.com) for a quick revitalization of body and mind and emotions that I can assure you will be a thin crust pizza by then. Also, when we’re out shopping caffeine is what equals revitalization. We have our Mobile Spinach discount at Equal Exchange Café (www.equalexchange.coop/index.php). Here it is if you want to use it!

Equal Exchange Cafe offers free cup of coffee just for Mobile Spinach members.

when to go to San Fran

November 28th, 2009, 9:32 a.m.

We’d love to be visiting San Francisco during its “Summer Months” (i.e. November through June) and taking advantage of all the Mobile Spinach promotions they keep bragging about landing. Alas, all we can do is write about how “dope” they are. Whatever!

The Hottest Spot North of Havana

November 22nd, 2009, 2:51 p.m.

It’s finally time to bundle up at home and when we go out. We’ve heard good things about Coppa, a little Italian eatery in the South End. The wine list is enough to keep you warm via the glow of accents involved in pronouncing the names of regions and vineyards. The bar menu is supposedly thorough and delicious so pair up some wines with that and we’re happy and cozy.

Patch it Up

November 13th, 2009, 6:44 p.m.

Patch NYC (http://www.acquireboutique.com/) is opening up in our historic ‘hood. We, we’ll I, spent a Sunday afternoon mesmerized by how in the hell someone collects all the intricacies for sale in the NYC store. I will be ready to spend an entire Sunday in the new shop when it opens.

Beer heeeere!

November 9th, 2009, 7:22 p.m.

We love our local Bostonian beers. This weekend we’ll be pleasing both our palates and not so much our livers at the Beer Summit Harvest Fest. They supposedly have over 45 samples from local breweries on tap. I will be making us hit the gym on Sunday you best believe it.

In My Room

October 28th, 2009, 5:11 p.m.

The Living Room at the W Hotel (www.starwoodhotels.com) is opening this week and we can’t wait to check it out. Not only does it house Market by uber chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, it’s the freakin’ W! When we gallivant to other cities we always try and stay in the W. It can be hazardous though to a vacation as we never ever want to get out of their beds. Unreal. Thank you for coming to Beantown!

An upside down W is the first letter in Market

October 21st, 2009, 2:53 p.m.

The restaurant in the W is finally opening. Market seems, from the pictures I’ve seen, to blend well with the hotel’s ascetic and will hopefully be accentuated by the cuisine. The space is located in the theatre district so dinner and a show and a possible get-a-way at the hotel is very possible. No standing in the cold waiting for a cab, straight to the room and under the covers.

sorry, no deals to show here... Home
