Los Angeles Male - MUSIC: I am obsessed with going to shows and concerts and one of my biggest frustrations in life is when there are two or three shows going the same night and I have to choose which one to hit up, or sometimes I can make it to two. This happens a lot in LA. I consider myself an indie-rock guy, but I also love good indie-pop, alt-rock, indie hip-hop, electro, mash-up DJs, americana, post-rock / instrumental, punk-rock, funk, reggae, and sometimes a bit of post-hardcore, pop-punk, and ska. I definitely prefer smaller, more intimate venues, but I also dig festivals and arena shows once in a while, when the lineups are excellent. In Los Angeles, I frequent Spaceland and Echo (especially on Mondays for their FREE residency shows), Cinespace, and the Roxy and I also like the Music Box @ Fonda and Avalon a lot. The Palladium, The Wiltern, Club Nokia, The Viper Room, the Key Club, and the El Rey Theatre are also quite killer venues! A few of my favorite bands include Counterfit (RIP), Sigur Ros, Idlewild, Caspian, Sufjan Stevens, Brother Ali, Cold War Kids, Underoath, Bloc Party, Limbeck, Pretty Girls Make Graves (RIP), Jimmy Eat World, Anathallo, Iron and Wine, RX Bandits, Death Cab for Cutie, Thrice, Matisyahu, Lovedrug, Sage Francis, Mute Math, Hot Hot Heat, The Cat Empire, The Shins, Ben Kweller, The Bomb Squad, MeWithoutYou, Hit the Lights, 311, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Rage Against the Machine (RIP), Saves the Day, Feist, Justice, Relient K, The Mars Volta, Silversun Pickups, and VHS or Beta. A few upcoming LA bands I like a lot right now include: The Diamond Light, Darker My Love, Henry Clay People, The Submarines, The Mae Shi, The Parson Redheads, The Hanks, The Movies, Western States Motel, Faded Paper Figures, and Glare of Rockets. - SPORTS: I love playing and watching sports, especially college football, of which my teams are (1st) Michigan and (2nd) Oregon. My NHL allegiance is the Detroit Red Wings (my Dad's from Michigan). I lived in Boston the last three years, so I like and follow The Patriots, the Celtics, the Red Sox, and Bruins. I am from Connecticut and miss the Hartford Whalers a great deal; they were wonderful! I have played ice hockey my whole life and miss playing men's league, which I am not playing in LA now. I currently play Ultimate Frisbee in a league. I also love and grew up playing golf, tennis, basketball, water polo (played for seven years between boarding school and college), football, baseball, and just about everything else except Crew. Disc golf and beach volleyball are excellent too! EATS AND DRINKS: I am not obsessed with going to restaurants, but I do love to eat, anything from steak to sushi to crepes to Thai food, to lots and lots of sandwiches. I don't like paying too much for food and rarely go to real nice restaurants, but I don't like dive places that much either. I like checking out new spots and I especially like bars and restaurants with good beer selections: American craft beers and/or Belgian and German beers. I LOVE diners and sports bars! OTHER: I love checking out new spots, new bars, new companies, new stores, and knowing what is new and hip in culture. I like to then get involved, if possible, and use my creative ideas to further the cause! I also like volunteering and promoting social causes and charities, to give back and help others in need. I am an entrepreneur (used to run a record label and productions company for six years) and am working on launching a few small projects/companies in Los Angeles right now. I like to be diversified in all areas of my life and I love to try new things and travel to new places, around the world especially! LASTLY: LA has so much going on and I love finding out everything that is worth knowing about. Follow my Mobile Spinach Tastemaker Profile to be in the know! I'd love to know where you hang out and what you love to do! Email mobilespinach@mobilespinach.com businesses that you like and things you like to do and we will do our best to get you discounts from your favorite places. |

The holidays are finally over and now it can start getting hot again. I’ve already noticed the light coming into my office has is now fading at 4:50 pm in stead of 4:30 pm. This is a good sign for all people involved; namely every sun-lover in the Northern hemisphere. Still though it is months before Spring Forward so it’s time to get somewhere closer to our Planet Heater…how….about…Hawaii?
• Hotel Renew Honolulu offers up to 20% off (10% off 2 nights, 15% off 3 nights, 20% off 4 nights)
Movies are called “films” in this town and watching a film in the right setting is a sign of success for many people in “the business.” So, usually private screen rooms are mounted in homes belonging to people who can afford the luxury of a private theatre. The next logical step down from a private screening room and a step up from the Arclight is Gold Class Cinemas (www.goldclasscinemas.com) where you might be paying upwards of $30 for a flick but with more perks than frozen JR Mints and soggy popcorn.

The Request Lines are Open
Next Tuesday is another installment of Eats & Beats at The Hudson (www.thehudsonla.com) and I am damn ready. The parties thus far have consisted of good food, great people and top tier music and I suspect that next Tuesday will be the same. Here are the details:
We are proud to announce the return of San Francisco's hottest dinner party series 'Eats & Beats' to The Hudson in Hollywood.
Do to the success of our LA premiere at The Hudson last month we are back and we're bigger & better than ever. The Hudson has a brand new Head Chef Greg DiMichiel and he's put together an AMAZING prixe fixe menu for all of us!
For just $30 you get your choice of 3 courses specifically designed and prepared for this event by chef DiMichiel. We are also going to have some wine and cocktail specials for you all evening. More to come on that later.
As for music - well that's completely up to you! Every single person that has a reserved seat at The Hudson next Tuesday for Eats & Beats is allowed to request one song to be played during dinner.
You get one song request per seat in your reservation and you must email seantduff@gmail.com with the artist, album, & track title.
So get your crew together, make a reservation, find out what they want to hear, and shoot me an e mail with all your requests - we know you are all bad asses so we will honor ALL requests no matter how obscure.
This event SOLD OUT in a matter of days last month so please be sure to get your reservations into us ASAP. You can do so by calling The Hudson @ 323.654.6686 or by e mailing me at seantduff@gmail.com
Get your rezzy's in ASAP - gonna be a great night! We look forward to seeing all of you there.
The Eats & Beats crew that has recently taken over The Hudson in Hollywood is putting on another festive event for Thanksgiving. The Orphan’s Turkey Day Dinner will be the place to celebrate in town this Thursday. Family is for Christmas and Hanukah
So H.Wood (www.thehwood.com) has been around awhile and I’ve made sure I never even think of stepping foot in there since The Hills crew tainted the establishment; sad. But they’ve filled the space with new life with the opening of their Tea Room. It’s not what it sounds. The Tea Room is plush and full of panache but you don’t have to drink tea. What good is a speakeasy type joint if it doesn’t serve booze?
We’ll be sitting down at Royal/T (www.royal-t.org) this week with a few ladies and a few gents to enjoy eats from chef Ludo Lefebvre. The Royal/T is not exactly a steak house vibe so brining the ladies we can appease all involved. Check out the spot and read up on Ludo…you won’t be disappointed.
I’m really hoping this designer has something to do with Spencer Pratt of reality TV “fame”. KILLSPENCER’s collection (http://www.killspencer.com/) looks like some rugged and fashion conscious threads but please oh please don’t put KILLSPENCER on any t-shirt and let it be the mascot collection of an unspoken society advocating the downfall of a certain douche.
Pandora, a nightclub roving around the country throwing bashes in unusual locales, comes to LA this week (http://www.wix.com/tomiknv/Pandora). The exclusivity of this party-as-experience was made for Halloween. This round they are transforming St. Vibiana’s church for an extra creepy experience.
I’ve yet to try this new service but it seems a ton cheaper than a DUI. And, as “The Missing Persons” said in the 80s…”Nobody walks in LA.” Check out Y Drive LA (http://www.ydrivela.com/). You call them up, they scooter to the bar or where ever you’ve decided to tie one on, throw that scooter in your trunk and drive your ass home…hopefully not alone of course. Then they get the hell out of there and leave you be. I think they’re gonna be on my dial by voice directory before long.
I found my next app for my iphone. Remember those old car alarm commercials for the Viper where a guy in a stocking cap approaches a car only to be bitten by a cartoon snake? I never really understood those commercials but the Viper is back. This time you can start your car, turn on the heater, open the trunk and basically do everything you’d want to do in your car from a distance. I’m not sure how far away you can be though. Check it…http://www.viper.com/.
The space to hang this Thursday night (if you can get in) and this weekend is Voyeur. This is the winter lounge I’ve been dreaming about. One part Foxtail, one part celebrity sex tape, this place looks like you’ll just melt away into the massive easy chairs.
