Tastemaker: keep it tight

keep it tight

Los Angeles Couple
We have been married for a few years both met outside of LA even though we are from LA.
LA is diverse in food and people.
This is what we like to do together:
Charity-there are so many people that need our help-why not give it once in a while
Food-farmers markets, health food.
Restaurants-tons of dining out and dinner parties with friends from in and out of town and co-workers
Cool indie art galleries-love supporting our local artists
Health- there are a ton of fun activities from skiing, surfing
Music-too much music in our heads, love concerts of all sizes
Relax-very important on where to spend your ‘you’ time

I'd love to know where you hang out and what you love to do! Email mobilespinach@mobilespinach.com businesses that you like and things you like to do and we will do our best to get you discounts from your favorite places.

Nobody Walks in LA

January 6th, 2010, 1:03 p.m.

Car to LA is like boat to Venice. The only difference is that it is considered kosher to hop into Gondola as a form of taxi. In LA it’s quite unlikely that the driver will actually know where you are headed, although they may sing for you. I just read about Booze Cruiser (www.boozecroozer.com) and I’m loving it! Rides to Malibu and into the hills can really hurt the pocket book and I don’t have to tell anyone that getting a DUI costs a lot more than a cab. So Booze Cruiser offers limos with all you can drink for something like 99 cents a mile! Unreal. Can’t wait to book it up for next time we hit the town.

Fred Segal is a Man

December 30th, 2009, 1:40 p.m.

So we were going to get into our NYE plans this week but Mobile Spinach landed a %30 discount on a hair cut for men at Just One LA (http://store.justonela.com/) which is some pretty cool stuff. It reminds me of a Fred Segal just for men. Check it out. Hopefully we can get some discounts on the shopping side of the boutique as well.

For NYE we’ll be out on the town going to one of the many gatherings LA has to offer, though the house parties are always the best for NYE.

Blog vs. Blog

December 9th, 2009, 1:10 p.m.

I know our “Single Male” Tastemaker wrote about the Eats & Beats party for next Tuesday but we are heading there too so sorry for the double-dutch blog action. We’ve been hitting The Hudson hard lately and if there is a dinner party being held there then we are all for it.

Dirty South…In the West

December 2nd, 2009, 10:25 a.m.

After our San Francisco office “required” us to write about San Francisco deals cause there were soooo many last week I thought I’d revisit one of the deals we have in LA. Baby Blues BBQ (www.babybluesvenice.com) in West Hollywood (and San Francisco, of course) was one of our first clients in LA and we’ve been going back ever since.

If you live in LA or are visiting and love BBQ, this is your joint. Go to http://www.mobilespinach.com/pages/bus/10/ sign in or sign up and click on the “Sign Up to Get Deal” tab next to the deal and Mobile Spinach will send the Text Alert to your phone so you can get some dirty south rib action.

Mentioning Unmentionables

November 22nd, 2009, 2:47 p.m.

We are making a trip very soon to Sugar Lilie Dessous Prives; a new addition to the LA’s lingerie line up. They have pieces from around the world that I have a feeling we both will enjoy. I’m searching for a website but can’t seem to find one, Google it up and I’m sure you can partake as well.

Under your feet and In your Drink

November 13th, 2009, 6:42 p.m.

We are so hitting up the new ice skating rink at the W. It’s supposedly where the pool usually is. I am getting my man nice and toasty on whiskey and then strappin’ on those skates and watching his bravado fall through the ice. Check it out! Bouchon opens

November 9th, 2009, 7:19 p.m.

Bouchon opens in 90210 this month and we are saving up to go and do the foodie thing right. Thomas Keller is bringing his Napa landmark to LaLa and it’s gonna be the hot reservation in town for sure. If you can, go with a friend with deeeeeep pockets as the bill for my last trip to Bouchon in Napa for about 7 people ran about $1,700. That was being conservative with the booze and wine too.

Takin’ it to the Streets

October 28th, 2009, 5:08 p.m.

So the new trend in dining is street eats, yes the Roach Coach. But no longer are they slangin’ greasy noodles and meat that will keep you guessing. Chefs from all over are taking it to the carts that are taking to the streets. Basically they are serving up gourmet versions of old favorites; for example, The Grilled Cheese Truck (http://www.thegrilledcheesetruck.com/). They churn out some fantastic melty sandos that can be considered fast food which you can actually digest in what might be considered a normal amount of time. The website has the schedule of where the truck is setting up.

The leg as Art

October 21st, 2009, 2:41 p.m.

We are actually going to an art exhibit soon. The Fahey/Klein gallery is opening an exhibition of Ramus Mogensen (awesome name I might add) photography, which consists of women with legs that reach any normal human beings chin or neck. I don’t get it, there are a lot of short guys in LA. Do they know how absurd they would look walking the room with a woman of that stature? I guess it’s a fantasy thing….as in Fantasy Island? As in Tattoo from Fantasy Island?
